preview crashes

preview crashes

Every time I open a .pdf file with Preview, it crashes. This is recent behavior but consistent. What can I do about it?

It only happens on my MacBook Air, not my MacBookPro. On Mojave 10.14.4.

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Quit Preview.

From your Finder "Go" menu > "Go to folder" then copy & paste this file path:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.plist

Click Go.

Delete the plist file.

Does it work as expected now?

It is not crashing now, but there is no Preview.plist file in the Preferences folder, and I didn't delete it, so I'm not sure what is happening. However, I can now proceed with my work, so thank you! If the problem re-occurs in some form, I'll check for the .plist file and delete it.

plist files rebuild themselves. Are you sure it isn't there? There is more than one Preferences folder and the one you want is in your Users folder (~/Library/Preferences) which is normally hidden. You may be looking in /Library/Preferences. Enter the file path I gave you in Finder > Go to folder.

Thanks for your help, macjack. I did check both the ~ and the non-~ file paths, neither has a Preview, but my MacBook Pro does have it. In any case, Preview is not crashing today. I will keep an eye out for the creation of a new Preview.plist file. Appreciate the pointer to where these files are kept.

Your welcome. Still that seems odd to me but I guess "if it's not broke don't fix it" applies.
