removing a firmware padlock on my imac 27”

I have a 27” iMac which is locked with a firmware grey screen and padlock, I cannot boot into disk utility to put my computer back to factory settings using command and R as I don’t know the password.

iMac 27", macOS 10.13

Apple say:


If you forgot your firmware password


If you can't remember your firmware password or passcode, schedule an in-person service appointment with an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Bring your Mac to the appointment, and bring your original receipt or invoice as proof of purchase.
