Fixing the Passkey Autofill Error on Microsoft Sign In:

Screenshot of this Error Message:

How to Perform this Fix:

Do you use the Authenticator App for your Microsoft Account?  Do you have AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys set up for this account in Web Browsers and on iCloud Keychain? Do you use a Passwordless Account through Microsoft? If so to ALL Three, you might be getting an error when you attempt a login:  An AutoFill passkey is shown in the text box of the sign in page, followed by the fowling message in red-colored font format: We couldn't use your device to verify your identity. Enter your password to sign in. This is because a password and or passkey is set up on your Web Browser(s)' AutoFill settings, but Two-Factor Authentication is set up on your Microsoft’s Account site. The ultimate solution here is to set this up so that only Two-Factor Authentication is operable. Use a Mac to perform this, as it would be more user-friendly doing so. IMPORTANT: Be certain your are signed into the same Apple Account on all devices and that Passwords is enabled in your iCloud Settings so that all syncs as it should.

Perform the Following on a Mac:

  1. Remove: any password(s) or passkey(s) from your Mac(on all Web Browsers) and form iCloud Keychain
  2. Sign Into http://account.microsoft.com
  3. Remove: the password from your Microsoft Account
  4. Turn OnPasswordless Account
  5. Sign Outof http://account.microsoft.com
  6. Sign Into http://account.microsoft.com
